JOB SUMMARY
The Factory (Production) Manager oversees all aspects of a new sewing operation which may also include upholstery production processes, ensuring products are manufactured efficiently, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This role involves managing production schedules, supervising staff, optimizing workflow, maintaining health and safety standards and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Production Planning & Management:
– Develop and implement production schedules to meet order deadlines and customer requirements.
– Monitor production processes and adjust schedules as needed.
– Coordinate with procurement, design, and sales teams to ensure smooth workflow - Quality Assurance:
– Ensure all products meet company and industry quality standards.
– Implement and monitor quality control procedures.
– Investigate and resolve production and quality issues.
– Organize staff training and development activities - Team Leadership:
– Supervise, train, and motivate production staff (sewing machine operators, upholsterers, cutters, etc.).
– Conduct regular team meetings and performance reviews.
– Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
– Liaise with customers, respond to inquiries, and follow up on leads.
– Gather market intelligence and competitor information - Process Optimisation:
– Identify areas for process improvement and cost reduction.
– Implement lean manufacturing and 5S Principles where applicable.
– Optimise use of materials, machinery, and labour. - Resource Management:
– Oversee maintenance of machinery and equipment.
– Manage inventory of raw materials and finished goods.
– Liaise with suppliers and contractors as needed - Reporting:
– Prepare and present regular production reports on output, efficiency, and quality.
– Track and analyse production data to inform decision-making.
Minimum requirements
- N6, Textile Engineering, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
- Proven experience (3+ years) in a production management role within clothing manufacturing and/or upholstery.
- Strong understanding of textile production processes, machinery, and materials.
- Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office and production management software (e.g. ERP systems).
- Ability to troubleshoot problems quickly and effectively.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Ability to stand and move around the factory floor for extended periods.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as needed to meet production deadlines.
- Must have own transport
