Service Centres
Service centre model
The TRSA Service Centre model for the minibus taxi industry is an intervention designed to formalise a structured support system for the industry, with a primary focus on mechanics operating in and around taxi ranks.
While these mechanics are central to the functioning of the taxi ecosystem, their operations often lack infrastructure, tools and business support, limiting their capacity to adequately serve the industry
Brownfield facility upgrading to ensure mechanics are adequately trained and housed:
Service Centre Objectives
- Providing the industry with services designed for their needs.
- Improved workmanship.
- Improve fleet reliability, safety and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Improved road safety.
- Minimise vehicle downtime, particularly for commercial and public transport fleets.
- Formalise the currently informal network of mechanics by introducing structured training, appropriate equipment, and standardised practices within the local minibus network.
- Supporting communities.
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
The establishment of minibus taxi service centres creates significant job opportunities across multiple skill levels, contributing directly to local employment and broader economic development. These centres require skilled mechanics, technicians, supervisors, administrative staff, security personnel and logistics coordinators, providing both formal and semi-skilled positions.
