JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Transport appointed Taxi Recapitalisation South Africa to create and execute commercial solutions that will enhance the financial sustainability of the minibus taxi industry.

 

We are seeking a meticulous and insightful Data Analyst to be the backbone of evidence-based decision-making for TRSA. In this role, you will transform complex operational, financial, and vehicle data into clear, actionable intelligence. Your analysis will directly influence programme strategy, monitor its success, ensure financial integrity, and provide transparency to stakeholders. The role reports directly to the ICT Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Programme Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain interactive dashboards (using Power BI) to track KPIs for transport industry.
  • Analyse programme uptake and identify regional trends, bottlenecks, and success factors.
  • Prepare regular reports for the TRSA management, the Department of Transport, and other government stakeholders

Financial & Scrapping Analytics

  • Track and analyse the disbursement of scrapping allowances and subsidies.
  • Perform data validation checks to ensure financial integrity and prevent fraud.
  • Model the financial impact of the programme and analyse cost-benefit scenarios

Stakeholder & Industry Analysis

  • Analyse data related to taxi owners, operators, and associations to understand the programme’s impact on the industry.
  • Use data to support the formalization and economic empowerment objectives of the programme.
  • Support communication efforts with clear, data-driven narratives

Data Management & Governance

  • Extract, transform and load of the data insights (ETL) including the scrapping database, eNaTIS, financial systems, and applicant forms.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and security, handling sensitive information with the utmost integrity.
  • Collaborate with IT Manager and Project Manager: ICT & Systems Integrations to improve data collection processes and database structures.

Impact Evaluation

  • Analyse the programme’s impact on improving the public transport industry (correlation with relevant data) to make it more formal and profitable.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis to answer critical questions from programme leadership, government officials and all relevant stakeholders.

Minimum requirements

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Information Technology, Finance, or a related quantitative field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in a data analysis or business intelligence role.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL for data querying, manipulation, and extraction.
  • Demonstrable experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI (preferred) to create executive-level dashboards.
  • Strong analytical skills with a solid foundation in statistical methods.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, complex formulas, Power Query).
  • Experience with at least one data analysis programming language, preferably Python or R.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in another South African official language is an advantage.
  • A valid driver’s license.
